JOB DESCRIPTION
o Communications systems/network SME supporting satellite communications (SATCOM) transmission and Internet Protocol (IP) routed networks integrated with the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN).
o The candidate will be expected to be able to assist in communications and IP network system requirements analysis and decomposition, understand end-to-end transport architectures and assist in network systems design, testing, implementation and integration of SATCOM transmission and IP networks.
o The candidate will be expected to understand and be conversant with the core DISN services (e.g. NIPRNET, SIPRNET, DSN, VoIP, VoSIP, VTC).
o Be able to provide test oversight and system verification/validation at the Joint SATCOM Engineering Center (JSEC) prior to operational deployment.
o Candidate must be highly proficient in providing Help Desk Tier III support to the operational community.
o Periods of extended overseas travel likely required.
o Candidate must also be able to provide operational input and perspective to the Systems Engineering group prior to equipment fielding.
o Provide communications and IP network SME support to the DoD Teleport Integration & Implementation (I&I) Team.
o CONUS and OCONUS travel to integrate and implement various communications and IP network technologies at any DoD Teleport.
o Provide Tier III SME Help Desk support to the operational community on the Teleport system.
o Assist in training site and DISA Network Control (DNC) personnel with newly implemented Teleport systems/devices.
o Assist the I&I Project Manager with cost, schedule, and performance related information.
o Frequent visits to the JSEC to assist with testing and system checkout prior to any system/device being fielded by the I&I team.
o Proof and validate any necessary documentation.
o mGenerate Engineering Change Requests on behalf of I&I Leads.
o IP support will consist of: IP modems, routers, switches, voice gateways, baseband equipment (note: list is not all inclusive).
o Author and proof Implementation and Configuration Guides.
o Provide contractual deliverables IAW identified timelines.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
o 8
years of experience with a degree, or 10
years of experience without a degree.
o Candidate must have strong written and oral communications and be capable of working independently and in a team environment.
o Candidate must be knowledgeable of the core Defense Information System Network (DISN) services.
o Candidate should be proficient with Microsoft (MS) Office: Word, Excel, Power Point, Project.
o Candidate should be familiar with and be able to use MS Visio.
o Must have significant experience with the major IP network routing protocols: RIP, BGP, IGRP, EIGRP and SATCOM transmission principles.
o Proficiency configuring CISCO and/or Juniper equipment required.
o Demonstrated strong technical competency with Windows and Linux/Unix operating systems and platforms
o Experienced candidates that lack certifications will be required to obtain certifications during a negotiated probationary period.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
o Understanding of Configuration Management and Logistics principals
o Understanding of DoD IA policies and procedures
o Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
REQUIRED EDUCATION
o Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer Science, Communications Systems Engineering or other engineering-related field.
REQUIRED SECURITY CLEARANCE
o Active Secret
EOE M/F/D/VEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
